Ephesians 6:5-9 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him. This morning at church we talked about slaves & masters, in relation to employees & employers.  But the key theme through this sermon series (on "framing" our relationships--Ephesians 5:21-6:9) has been that all of our relationships--whether husband & wife, parents & children, or employers & employees--are a direct relationship of our relationship with Christ.  How we are living between...

Proverbs 6:20-23 "My son, keep your father's commandment,  and forsake not your mother's teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. The book of Job has been ruining me lately.  I've never really read Job's story before, so I am just constantly being blown away by its richness and how God has been using it in my life. As you know, though this probably wasn't on a felt board in children's church, Job had it all.  One could say he was very blessed.  He was blessed indeed.  Why? you may ask.  Because he was "blameless and upright" in the LORD's eyes.  Then, in one swift, fatal blow, he lost it all.  Was this because of sin? No.  Not at all, though his culture and his friends were telling him otherwise.  God was allowing Satan to try and test Job to prove that Job was not a faithful God-follower because he was blessed, but that he was blessed because he was a faithful God follower.  His relationship with God was not dependent on these material blessings, but it was contingent upon the blessing of knowing, communing with, and worshiping God.   We see this pi...
